Tutorials#
Build logs for real projects, start to finish. Each one is a weekend-sized build: the parts list, the wiring or setup, the code, and the things that tend to bite along the way. Pick the one that matches the box on your bench.
Every build follows the same three steps: get the device online, give it a route, and visit the address. What changes is the hardware and what you serve.
Raspberry Pi#
Home Assistant from anywhere →
Your smart-home dashboard over HTTPS from your phone, even on a 4G router or behind CGNAT. No port forwarding.
SSH into a Pi behind CGNAT →
A shell, scp and VS Code Remote on a Pi that has no public IP. Keys only, with an alias that makes the tunnel invisible.
ESP32#
Host a website on an ESP32 →
A whole website in the board's flash, at its own HTTPS address. No VPS, no gateway. Watch the 40-second build.
Remote heating for a holiday home →
A relay, a thermistor read with a stopwatch, and a control page with safety cutoffs. Warm when you arrive.
ESP32 sensor dashboard →
A DHT22 on a €5 board, serving a live temperature and humidity page at its own HTTPS address. No server in between.
Machines and networks#
A machine’s web screen →
A Raspberry Pi in the control cabinet gives you the PLC or HMI web page from the office, without touching the plant firewall.
Password-protect a site →
A login prompt and an IP allowlist in front of any of the builds above, checked before a single byte reaches your device.
Before you start#
- An account. Sign up in the console. The free plan covers one device and two routes, which is enough for every build here except the machine one.
- Shared Wi-Fi is fine. Your device only ever connects out, so it works behind a 4G router, CGNAT, a hotel network or a plant firewall that blocks everything inbound.
- Free-plan visitor notice. The first time a browser opens a free-plan address, it shows a short Tollan notice; click Continue and it stays out of the way for a week. Apps, scripts and
curlnever see it, and paid plans have none.
